So here we are again, and it’s time to say, ‘See you later,’ to another blog. My sweet readers, you have become some of my closest friends over the last couple of years. You have seen me through some of my best and worst times and I have been happy to share those times with you. I am a firm believer in that we are stronger together than we are apart.
So I got a job. I am the digital media specialist for a local sportswear company. It sounds really fancy, doesn't it?
Moving is hard. It's just hard.
Luckily, we have found some great resources for things to do in our new town. But now is the "most wonderful time of the year"! School has begun!
So, I finally decided that I should at least try to go back to full-time work. Everyone in our house is in full-time school. No one really needs my help during the day, and well, let's face it. The extra money would be nice. So I began my search.
Do you find that when it comes time to PCS, it seems like there are no less than a million decisions to be made? I know I do!
Do you or your husband travel ahead while the other stays behind or do you go together?
Do you take the kids out of school to move or wait until the break?
How much stuff do you take in your personally owned vehicle?
So, I’ve had my mandatory meltdown. My negativity and frustration with the entire move process has probably scared away almost every positive friend I have as I retreat into a corner to rock back and forth - but wait.
It’s time for a time-out for mom. And with a snap of my fingers, I took one.
In Army life,
In Army life, we (soldiers and families) are taught to adapt and overcome. It's just that simple. When your soldier deploys, you figure out what to do and you do it. When it is time to move, you figure out what to do and you do it. It's just that simple.
Or is it?
For those who know me, they know that one of my favorite quotes is by Coach John Wooden: “Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out.”
We received our assignment of choice (great job for him, close to home for me), and then the other boot fell.
You would think that moving as much as we do, that the act of moving would, in and of itself, feed my somewhat obsessive compulsive nature. But my dear friends, it does not. Most days, it sends me to the corner rocking and singing the alphabet quietly to myself, like it did this day.
"It costs nothing to have a little faith, so when times get tough, we might as well give it a try."
So to me, a Permanent Change of Station can be looked at a lot like a deployment. No matter how many you have under your belt, the next one will be different. It may be more difficult. It may be easier. But it will certainly be different.
