In a recent statement regarding its Salute to Spouses Scholarship, Bryant & Stratton College Online announced that it has awarded more than 55 college scholarships to military spouses since the program was started in March 2010. The scholarships are designed to help spouses of active military service members advance their education and become more marketable in the current job market. The Salute to Spouses scholarships can only be used to pursue online programs and offered at select campuses of Bryant & Stratton College.
Bryant & Stratton College Online started the Salute to Spouses scholarship program in response to the Department of Defense discontinuing the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program last spring. While the MyCAA has since returned, Bryant & Stratton College Online has decided to continue offering the Salute to Spouses scholarship thanks in large part to its initial success. As Bryant & Stratton College Online was recently named to G.I. Jobs Magazine’s list of 2011 Military Friendly Schools, the success of the Salute to Spouses scholarship program as made it possible for the program to expand to three Milwaukee area campuses as well as the Virginia Beach/Hampton campuses.
The Salute to Spouses scholarship offers part time students who are spouses of active military personnel $600 per semester and $1,200 per semester for full time students. The maximum amount any student can receive through the program is $6,000. In order to qualify for one a Salute to Spouses scholarship, students must have a copy of their spouse’s orders, a copy of their marriage certificate, and a high school diploma. Students must also carry a 3.0 GPA while receiving the scholarship and stay enrolled semester to semester to continue to receive the scholarship payments.
